Mac McClung, a Gate City native and former standout at Georgetown University, has signed a two-way deal with the Orlando Magic. The deal will allow McClung to split time between the Magic and their NBA G League affiliate, the Lakeland Magic.
McClung, a 6-foot-2 guard, was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He played one season at Georgetown before declaring for the NBA draft in 2021. He went undrafted but later signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-way deal.
McClung played in 17 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 3.4 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. He also played in 21 games for the South Bay Lakers in the G League, averaging 19.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
The Magic are hoping that McClung can provide them with some much-needed depth in the backcourt. The team is currently without Markelle Fultz, who is recovering from a torn ACL, and Cole Anthony, who is dealing with an ankle injury.
McClung is a talented scorer who can create his own shot. He is also a good passer and rebounder. He will likely see some playing time with the Magic this season, especially if Fultz and Anthony continue to miss time.
It is too early to say if McClung will be able to make a significant impact on the Magic this season. However, he has the potential to be a valuable contributor. He is a hard worker and a talented player. If he can continue to develop, he could become a key piece of the Magic's future.
