Mayorkas' Salary to Be Reduced if Bipartisan Spending Bill Passes
Department of Homeland Security Secretary to Face Salary Cut
Current Salary of $203,500 May Decrease
Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, is set to see a significant reduction in his annual salary if a bipartisan spending bill currently under consideration is passed.
Under the proposed legislation, Mayorkas' salary would be set at $1. This represents a potential reduction of over $200,000, or more than a 50% decrease from his current salary of $203,500.
The salary reduction could amount to over $4,000 per month, or a total of more than $50,000 per year. This would be a significant financial blow to Mayorkas, who has held the position of Secretary of Homeland Security since 2021.
It remains to be seen whether the spending bill will pass and become law. If it does, Mayorkas will be the first Secretary of Homeland Security to face a salary reduction while in office.
